Description
MCG Hub connects a WordPress site to the MEDIA CONTENT GROUP plugin server (mediacg.org) with a key issued for that site.
- Catalog under MCG Plugins → Catalog: every plugin allowed for the site, with the installed and the current version and one button — Install, Update, Replace (old builds) or Reinstall.
- Safe updates: the plugin files are replaced in place. The plugin is never deleted first, so
uninstall.phpdoes not run and settings, tables and options stay; an active plugin stays active. - Checked downloads: every archive is verified against its SHA-256 from the catalog before WordPress unpacks it.
- Per-site keys: a key works only on the domain it was issued for, and only for the plugins allowed for that site. Keys can be replaced or revoked on the server at any time.
- Reports: twice a day (and after every change) the Hub tells the server which versions run on the site, so outdated sites are visible in one place.
- WP-CLI for agents and scripts:
wp mcg-hub status,wp mcg-hub key <key>,wp mcg-hub install <slug> --activate,wp mcg-hub update --all,wp mcg-hub reinstall <slug>.
The Hub only adds the key to requests to www.mediacg.org/plugins/ and /updates/; nothing is sent anywhere else.
Installation
- Upload the
mcg-hubfolder to/wp-content/plugins/(or upload the zip in Plugins → Add New) and activate it. - Open MCG Plugins → Catalog and enter the site key — or put it in wp-config.php:
define( 'MCG_HUB_KEY', 'mcgd_…' ); - Install or update plugins from the catalog. From the command line:
wp mcg-hub status, thenwp mcg-hub update --all.
FAQ
Do updates keep my settings?
Yes. Update, Replace and Reinstall only replace the plugin files. Never delete a plugin to reinstall it: deleting runs its uninstall routine, which erases its data.
What does «Old build without the MCG update server» mean?
The plugin folder is there, but its copy does not point at mediacg.org for updates (an older or locally made build). «Replace» puts the current catalog version in its place; settings are kept, but check the plugin afterwards, because an old build may have stored them differently.
What does «Newer than the catalog» mean?
The installed copy has a higher version than the published one — usually a local development build. The Hub leaves it alone unless you explicitly replace it.
Where do I get a key?
From MEDIA CONTENT GROUP: [email protected].
Changelog
1.1.0 (2026-10-15)
- «Overview» and «Catalog» are one screen now: «MCG Plugins» shows installed and available plugins on thematic shelves (SEO and analytics, internal linking and technical SEO, images and video) with «Open», install and update buttons and each plugin's status line; descriptions in the site language. The site key is at the bottom. The old «Catalog» address still works.
1.0.2 (2026-10-15)
- The «MCG Plugins» menu is now at the top of the admin menu, right under the Dashboard.
1.0.1 (2026-10-14)
- Fix: the «MCG Plugins» card was registered before translations were ready, which filled the debug log with «_load_textdomain_just_in_time was called incorrectly» notices.
1.0.0 (2026-10-12)
- First release: site key, catalog with install / update / replace / reinstall, SHA-256 check of every download, reports to the MCG server, WP-CLI commands.

MCG Hub is free to download — without a site key it installs nothing. Install it (Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin), open MCG Plugins → Catalog and enter the site key. Keys are issued at [email protected].
